CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati 2 have signed defender Bret Halsey to an MLS NEXT Pro contract, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Halsey, 22, joins the Orange and Blue second team from Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC of the USL Championship. He made four appearances with Colorado Springs following being loaned to the club from Real Salt Lake on August 5, 2022.
The Generation adidas player was selected by RSL as the seventh overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft from the University of Virginia. Halsey spent the majority of his time playing with RSL’s second team, Real Monarchs, registering three appearances in 2022 in MLS NEXT Pro, while playing in 19 matches in 2021 when the club was still part of the USL Championship.
The former first-round draft pick was a two-time ACC All-Tournament honoree with Virginia, where he appeared in 31 games, all starts, in his three seasons with the Cavaliers.
