FC Cincinnati 2 have signed midfielder Lucas Tamarez to an MLS NEXT Pro contract, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tamarez, 18, joins the Orange and Blue after spending the last six seasons with TSG Hoffenheim as part of the club’s ongoing strategic partnership with the German Bundesliga side. The Las Vegas, Nevada native joined Hoffenheim’s youth academy system from FSV Frankfurt at the age of 13 and steadily progressed into the Hoffe's U-17 and U-19 teams.
The midfielder made 25 total appearances at the U-17 and U-19 levels, seeing action in the Junioren-Bundesliga (U-19 Bundesliga) and Pokal der Junioren. Tamarez scored one goal and added one assist in 1,626 minutes of action.
Tamarez made his international debut for the Dominican Republic’s U-20 team on March 22 in a friendly against Honduras, playing 90 minutes and again on April 22 against Iraq. Tamarez has national eligibility to play internationally for three other countries including Germany, Italy and the United States.
Tamarez will be eligible for selection this Sunday, August 6 as FC Cincinnati 2 take on Huntsville City FC at Joe Davis Stadium.
