ALL-TIME SERIES

FC Cincinnati 2 face off against New England Revolution II in the fourth all-time meeting between the two sides. The Orange and Blue have yet to pick up a win in the series against Revs II and hold a 0-2-1 record.

LAST TIME OUT

It was a historic night at Gillette Stadium in April’s meeting between FC Cincinnati 2 and New England Revolution II. The two combined for an MLS NEXT Pro-record 10 goals, as three players registered braces in the contest, including Cincinnati’s Arquimides Ordoñez.

New England jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Orange and Blue leveled things in the 31st minute. Jordan Adebayo Smith restored the Revs II lead minutes before halftime, ending the half 3-2 in favor of the hosts.

Second-half goals from Salim Adams and Kai Thomas gave the Orange and Blue a lead before Damián Rivera tied the match at 4-4. The teams split goals over the final five minutes to send the match to a shootout, where New England would claim an extra point.

SCOUTING NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION II (8-4-2, 28 PTS., 2ND EASTERN CONFERENCE)

New England Revolution II have bounced back from a disappointing inaugural season in MLS NEXT Pro and now challenge for Eastern Conference supremacy in 2023. Revs II are just two points off Crown Legacy FC for the top spot in the east after winning five of their last seven matches.

It’s been nothing short of a goal-scoring party for Revs II this season. New England leads MLS NEXT Pro in goals, 31, heading into the weekend and have four players that have scored five times this season. The Revs II goals per match average of 2.2 trails only Colorado Rapids 2 (2.5).

Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Marco Dias are the main targets up front, but Esmir Bajraktarevic and Damián Rivera are two of the most efficient attacking midfielders in the league. Bajraktarevic is averaging a goal every 71 minutes while Rivera has eight goal contributions in just 521 minutes.

Although things have been going New England’s way offensively, Revs II are still trying to figure it out in the defensive third. Revs II have allowed 28 goals, two per match, this season and hold the fifth highest total across MLS NEXT Pro. However, Revs II seem to be turning a corner defensively, having earned three shutouts over their last five matches.

ABOUT THAT LAST MATCH… - FC Cincinnati 2 and New England Revolution II set an MLS NEXT Pro record for goals scored in a match when the two teams battled to a 5-5 draw in Foxborough, Massachusetts on April 30.

Seven goals were scored in the first 61 minutes of the match as the teams went back and forth for a combined 43 shots and 19 shots on target. 16 different players attempted at least one shot throughout the match as Arquimides Ordoñez led all players with seven attempts.

BACK HOME – Five of the Orange and Blue’s next seven, including Sunday’s match against Revs II, will take place at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium. FC Cincinnati 2 have been solid at home this season, playing to a 3-1-2 record and winning one of two extra time shootouts.

The Orange and Blue are averaging two goals per match at Scudamore Field with Ordoñez continuing to lead all goalscorers for FC Cincinnati 2 with six.

FROM THE SPOT – FC Cincinnati 2 have been awarded just one penalty through 12 matches this season while New England Revolution II have attempted seven. New England lead MLS NEXT Pro in that category while the Orange and Blue are tied for the second-lowest total.

NEW FACES – The Orange and Blue signed forward Philip Horton to a MLS NEXT Pro contract Friday afternoon adding support in the attacking third. Horton, who played four seasons at the University of Virginia, made 52 appearances for the Cavaliers scoring eight goals and four assists.

Midfielder Grayson Dupont also joins FCC 2 for Sunday’s match against New England on a short-term loan deal. Both players will be available for selection.
