FC Cincinnati 2 earned their second win of the preseason defeating the Michigan Stars FC 2-1 at Mercy Health Training Center Sunday afternoon.
The Orange and Blue controlled much of the first half action, creating a number of half chances that tested the Stars defense before finding a breakthrough in the 31st minute through Arquimides Ordoñez. It’s Ordoñez’s first goal for FC Cincinnati 2 this preseason and fourth overall after the forward scored three goals with FC Cincinnati in Clearwater, Fla.
The Stars would battle back, finding and equalizer in the 62nd minute which forced a competitive, back-and-forth affair over the final half hour. The match looked headed for a 1-1 draw before Gerardo Valenzuela, who scored his third goal of the preseason for FC Cincinnati 2, found the back of the net in the 90th minute.
“Very good from the boys today,” said Head Coach Tyrone Marshall following the match. “I’m happy with the way that we responded after facing some adversity in conceding that goal. We battled back and showed great resiliency for where we are in the preseason.”
FC Cincinnati 2 continue their preseason next Sunday against Xavier University at Mercy Health Training Center.
