RECAP | FC Cincinnati 2 shutout by New York City FC II in frustrating afternoon for the Orange and Blue

FC Cincinnati 2 played to a 4-0 loss to New York City FC II on Wednesday afternoon in their final home match of the season at Scudamore Field.

New York scored three first-half goals en route to the win with Jonathan Jimenez leading the NYCFC attack. Jimenez opened the scoring for the Pigeons in the 19th minute of play. Julian Gómez picked up an assist on the goal, heading a cross back across the box to Jimenez who finished at the far post.

Jimenez completed his brace five minutes later in the 24th minute for his ninth goal of the season. It’s Jimenez’s second multigoal game of the year. Steven Turnbull assisted on the goal, his fourth of the season.  

Gómez added a goal to his opening assist putting NYCFC up by three on the stroke of halftime. Gómez finished the attacking move after receiving a perfectly weighted pass from El Mahdi Youssoufi. Youssoufi controlled the run of play for New York, finishing the afternoon with three assists.

Samuel Owusu scored New York’s fourth and final goal in the 69th minute. New York finished the match with nine shots, five on goal, while holding the Orange and Blue to ten attempts and two shots on goal.

The Orange and Blue wrap up the MLS NEXT Pro season on Sunday against Columbus Crew 2 at Historic Crew Stadium with kickoff set for 3 p.m. ET.
