FC Cincinnati have ended the loan of forward Franko Kovačević (pronounced koh-VAH-chuh-vitch). The club will not exercise the option to put him under contract and he will return to TSG Hoffenheim.
“We thank Franko for his contributions to FC Cincinnati,” said FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp. “He has a new opportunity with a better chance for playing time which we cannot guarantee for him here. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors in the game.”
Kovačević has made three appearances this season totaling 38 minutes off the bench, including most recently for the final 17 minutes against Columbus Crew on July 9. He made his 2021 season debut June 19 against Colorado and was named to the active roster prior to that match after a stint on the injured list (hamstring).
He made one career start for the Orange and Blue, last season in the season finale at Inter Miami CF.
FC Cincinnati will return to action this weekend at TQL Stadium to face D.C. United. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on WSTR 64, carried on the radio on ESPN1530, streamed regionally on fccincinnati.com/stream, out of market on ESPN+, while an audio stream will be available via the iHeartRadio app.
