The teams will resume the game at a later date with FCC leading in the 38th minute after lightning, heavy rain force postponement

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Saturday’s game between FC Cincinnati and Louisville City FC at Louisville Slugger Field was abandoned as heavy rain and lightning saw the teams leave the field in the 38th minute with FC Cincinnati holding a 1-0 lead.

A rescheduled game date will be determined and announced in the coming days, with the game set to resume in the 38th minute with Cincinnati holding the 1-0 edge.

When the officials called the teams off the field because of lightning in the area, Corben Bone had scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute off an assist by Emmanuel Ledesma. It was Bone’s sixth goal of the season.

For Ledesma, it was his 12th assist of the season. That mark tied the USL single-season record jointly held by Chris Wehan (Reno 1868 FC, 2017) and Matthew Dallman (Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, 2013).

However, a nearby lightning strike 15 minutes later forced the teams off the field for a delay, and the rain that had been falling all afternoon became increasingly heavy, making the playing surface unplayable and forcing the abandonment.

FC Cincinnati (18-3-6) will return to Nippert Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 16, when the club hosts Toronto FC II at 4:30 p.m. The match will be televised on CW Cincinnati, on the radio on ESPN 1530 and streamed live on ESPN+.
