BLAINE, Minn. – FC Cincinnati Academy traveled to Blaine, Minn. to play their first official games as an MLS academy. Both the Under-16/17 and the Under-15 teams faced Minnesota United FC Academy in their inaugural DA Cup games. The U-16/17’s earned their first win in club history, blanking Minnesota United in a 3-0 victory, while the U-15’s fell, 1-0, in a hard-fought battle.

William Bencic opened the scoring for the Orange and Blue in the 18th minute. As Minnesota’s goalkeeper tried to clear the ball, Tacobi Nsimpasi headed the ball over to Arquimides Ordonez, who threaded in a though ball over to Bencic. Bencic dribbled past their goalkeeper and sent a left-footed a shot into the open net. In the second half, Akinni James doubled FCC’s lead in the 77th minute. From the left flank, he found the ball and then dribbled past his mark towards goal. James was able to slip the ball through for his first goal. Three minutes later, Minnesota United recorded an own goal while trying to clear a cross from Charlie Hamman. Beckham Sunderland and FC Cincinnati collected their first clean sheet of the season.

After conceding early in the first half, the Orange and Blue were unable to find an equalizer and suffered their first loss. Minnesota capitalized after intercepting the ball as Cincinnati tried play out from their backline. Isaac Calderon dribbled the ball from the edge of attacking third and towards goal. After cutting in and then back towards his right, Calderon tucked the ball inside the right post of the goal.
