The FC Cincinnati Academy swept Saint Louis FC over the weekend in USSF Development Academy regular-season action. The Under-17’s completed a comeback, defeating STL 2-1, while the Under-15’s won, 2-0 on Sunday at the Mercy Health Training Center.
Under-17’s
The U-17’s conceded early via a set piece. In the 12th minute, Ian Drake sent a cross to the far post - which Cincinnati goalkeeper Garrett Borgman (Crestwood, Ky.) mis-timed – and Giuseppe Gereau headed the ball into the open net to give the away team the lead. It did not take long for FCC to find an equalizer, though. After Manuel Gutierrez’s (Cincinnati, Ohio) initial shot was deflected, Arquimides Ordonez (Fort Thomas, Ky.) found the ball and took a shot from the edge of the penalty box. The ball cruised over to William Bencic (West Chester, Ohio), who redirected the ball toward goal and equalized in the 24th minute. In the 58th minute, Akinni James (Cincinnati, Ohio) drove towards goal from the right side of the field and cut back a pass as he approached the endline. Ethan Mills (Cincinnati, Ohio) sprinted towards the six-yard box and tapped the ball in for the eventual game-winner.

Sam Vota (Cincinnati, Ohio) headed the ball and scored his second goal across all competitions. In the 33rd minute, Ryder Mills (West Chester, Ohio) came close to extending the lead for FCC. Mills saw Saint Louis FC’s goalkeeper out of his line and tried to lob the ball from a distance, but his attempt at goal was saved. Mills was fouled near the left sideline in the 57th minute. Samways once again stepped up to take the set piece and sent a high cross to the far post. Matthew Dreas (Covington, Ky.) beat his defender in stride and calmly headed the ball for FCC’s second goal of the match.
