Academy Update: Aug. 28

Less than two weeks away from the first matches in FC Cincinnati Academy history, here’s a look at the September schedule for the Under-15 and Under-17 Teams:

  • Sept. 7 – FC Cincinnati Academy at Minnesota United Academy (Blaine, Minn.)
  • Sept. 21 – FCCA at Chicago Fire Academy (Bridgeview, Ill.)
  • Sept. 22 – FCCA at Indiana Fire (Westfield, Ind.)
  • Sept. 28 – FCCA against Chicago Fire Academy (Mercy Health Training Center)

The symbolizes FC Cincinnati’s first league matches in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. The other matches are in the Development Academy Cup, which is somewhat similar to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for academies across the country.

“It’s a tough schedule for us, no question,” Director of Player Development Larry Sunderland said. “All of our games are going to be difficult coming in as a new club and a new team in into the DA. In our first four games, three are against MLS competition, so it’ll be difficult, but we’re looking forward to it.”

The FCC Academy ends the month by hosting Chicago in the first academy matches ever played at the Mercy Health Training Center in Milford.

“I’m really excited for the end of September when Chicago comes here,” Sunderland said, who helped start the Fire’s academy. “It’s great and I hope people can get behind us. We need all the support.”
