FC Cincinnati’s eMLS Competitor, Gordon ‘Fiddle’ Thornsberry, will be among the top 64 FIFA players competing in the eChampions League in Manchester, England, this weekend.
The 64 players will be competing for a share of the $280,000 prize pool, FIFA 19 Global Series Points and a chance to attend the UEFA Champions League Final on June 1 in Madrid, Spain.
On April 26, the competitors will compete in the live swiss rounds, which will trim the field down to 32. On April 27, they will play in round of 32 and round of 16 matches. Then on May 31, the day before the UEFA Champions League Final, the top eight players will compete for the title.
Three additional eMLS competitors will be competing in the eChampions League this weekend. AlanAvi will be playing for FC Dallas, NYC Chris will be playing for NYCFC and Doolsta, the 2019 eMLS Cup champion, will be playing for the Philadelphia Union.
“The main thing I’m looking forward to is competing back on the world stage. My last chance was Singapore where I felt I underperformed so I’m looking to make right and do better this weekend.” Fiddle said ahead of the eChampions League. “Winning this tournament would be even tough to put into words how much it would mean. It’d be winning a Champions League for my club, $100,000 and winning a world event. It’s not going to be easy but I know it is possible.”
All three days of the tournament will feature live streaming coverage on twitch.tv/easportsfifa.
On Friday, April 26, streaming coverage will begin at 7:30 a.m. EDT. On Saturday, April 27, streaming coverage will begin at 8 a.m. EDT. If Fiddle makes it to the final eight, you can watch him play live from Madrid on Friday, May 31.
